Seen the walkers @ 344km mark…it was hard to choke back the tears. The pride, determination and unity in each and everyone of them I saw was just awesome, it brought me back to the story my father told me of his grandfather….which I want to share….My father’s grandfather; when he was going to hold a meeting or gathering; he would walk from one end of the community to the next with his drum. When he would pass a house, and the family heard the beating of the drum, the person/family had to stop what they were doing and walk with him, he did this until the very last house. With the ppl following behind they would walk to the mtg ground…..and this is the way we see “The Journey of the Nishiyuu” when they pass communities, you see memebrs joining the Walk……towards the mtg ground at Parliment hill which sits on an unceded territory…..GO Walkers Go!!!…….. Thought I’d share……

Sandra Cairns Anida that is a very important recounting. Where did they do that?
-
Anida Decoursay This was done in the community of Rapid Lake, I thought I’d share the similarities….I’m a believer that ppl have to relearn the ancestors way, I like using the term “Back to the Future”…because in order to move forward; we have to go back to learn the ways of our ancestors…..

Jan Lou Indeed, this is very similar, Anida. Have you seen the photos posted on this page by Gloria Polson in the past day? There’s some photos of a single walkeron a trail in the woods, another by a lake. It looks like it could be around Rapid Lake. (I was near there once, there are birch trees, right?) When I saw the photos i thought it must be walkers from a community going to join the main journey … very powerful.

Sandra Cairns Anida, isn’t it just amazing what people begin to “remember” and do naturally, even if they have never witnessed it. I believe everything around us records and carries information and that people have genetic memory also. Thank you for these inspiring words.
-
Anida Decoursay yes there is so much memories of stories that come up when people sit around and share…..each of us carries a piece of the puzzle and we have to put them together…..
-
Basil George Such a good story. In some ways I think of ancestor’s as being in the future. They left the Earth before us, and went ahead. We in turn will ahead of other people.
-
Anida Decoursay Corrrection….the place where my father’s grandfather used to do that is in Barriere Lake, also known as Mictik kinabikok. The name Mictik kinabikok has a story to it also, I’ll share another day…..

Lesli Furo Thank you for sharing that. What a wonderful memory to hold.
